Michael Wenban

Michael is a trusted adviser to senior leaders from many walks-of-life around the world.

With more than 30 years of multi-disciplinary practice and senior management experience, Michael founded Wenban Advisers to continue to provide independent and objective counsel to senior decision-makers addressing their toughest choices. Michael continues to advise in the private, public, and non-profit sectors, across a range of strategic issues, in multiple industries, and in many countries.

Prior to starting Wenban Advisers, Michael was a partner at Deloitte Canada, where he was a leader in Monitor Deloitte’s social finance, innovation and enterprise strategy practice. Before Monitor Deloitte, Michael was a Senior Partner at Monitor Group, where he had a multi-faceted career. His leadership responsibilities and activities included: a Member of the global Board of Directors, Chair of the global Partnership Committee, Co-Head of Monitor Canada, a leader of its global Financial Services practice, Co-Head of its global Organization and Leadership practice, Partner-in-Charge of Monitor’s India practices, and a past President of The Monitor Institute.

Before his 25-year career with Monitor and Monitor Deloitte, Michael worked in international capital markets in London and New York as a lawyer with the international firm Freshfields, Bruckhaus, Deringer. At Freshfields Michael helped develop structured finance products, raise equity and debt capital for sovereign, municipal and corporate issuers, and to advise on cross-border and domestic mergers and divestitures. Michael also worked in industry with the global conglomerate Trafalgar House, including as a corporate officer at Dartford River Crossing, one of the UK’s earliest and most successful public-private partnerships.

Michael has a joint undergraduate degree in History and Law from the University of Cambridge and Master degrees from the University of Toronto (Faculty of Law) and the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) and is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. Michael is active on several non-profit Boards of Directors and is a founding member of the Advisory Board of Social Capital Partners.
